Cheshunt FC v Ware Match Report – 15th August 2017.

18 Aug 2017

This is it, the first home game of the season for Cheshunt, both teams come into this after losing 1-0 in their opening day matches, both will have a point to prove here!

The majority of the first half was a pretty dull affair!! With the main chances coming to Ware’s Murat Karagul who couldn’t direct his header goalward after being found free in the penalty area. Kyle Roberts had Cheshunt’s main chance when he headed straight at Ware keeper, Tom Coulton from a corner. The game suddenly geared into life however and Cheshunt were awarded a Free Kick right by the corner flag. Tom Bruno steps up and delivers a looping, bending delivery towards the back stick, it evades everyone and flies into the top corner, a cross or a shot? Nobody in Cheshunt amber cared as this put them 1-0 up. The Ambers had to up the ante after this and they smelt blood, Dan Cheema fizzed a shot at Coulton who had to get down and beat the shot away, Cheshunt’s tails were up, then the turning point came. Hallett was brought down in the box after a high boot by Alaa Oudji. New signing Joe Pearman, who had impressed on set pieces for his old club stepped up, and fired the resulting penalty wide, this being the last kick of the half, this proved to be a massive turning point in the game.

The Second Half kicked off with neither manager making changes, that penalty miss still fresh in Cheshunt’s minds, the ambers were caught napping and Ware almost equalised with former Amber Marcus Milner fired a fierce shot at James May. May could do nothing about Yannick Kamanan’s free kick though, which beat him and the wall and flied into the top corner to level things up at 1-1 with 52 minuites gone. This had flipped the pattern from the first half, Ware had their tales up and Cheshunt were having to dig in defensively, the defense was finally breeched when a fierce shot came in which James May could only parry into the path of Murat Karagul who couldn’t miss and slotted into an empty net. 1-2 Ware with 65 minuites played. Even with JJ Da Cruz, Ricky Brennan and Mark Summers all trying to haul Cheshunt back into the game, Ware broke and scored a third, through Finbar Robbins who calmly slotted in from a driven low cross. This defeat leaves Cheshunt 22nd in the League and with no points from the first two games, the FA Cup on Saturday away at Brantham gives Cheshunt the ideal chance, to kick start their season.
