One community. One club.

Cheshunt FC win Community Club of the Year award 2017

06 Dec 2017

Community is at the heart of Cheshunt Football Club. Everything we do is aimed at promoting health and wellbeing in our community and bringing people together. On 29th November our ethos was recognised at the Active Broxbourne Sports Awards 2017 where we won The Community Club of the year award 2017!

The club was nominated by individuals living, working or playing sport in the Borough with our football, education and social awareness projects proving to be award winning. The programmes we offer include disability football, a college programme and a partnership with Network Rail to deliver rail safety messages, as well as our Community Cup day.

This event was held on 27th July in memory of 16-year old Robbie Lea, who tragically drowned in a lake at the Lee Valley Park in May. Despite the weather it saw hundreds of local residents come together to watch Cheshunt FC play matches against local clubs Harlow Town FC and Hertford Town FC. Spurs Ladies conducted a training session on site too. The family-orientated day raised over £1000 to help fund an awareness campaign to educate people about the dangers of swimming in open water.

In addition to the fantastic Community Club award we are also runners up in The Community Club of the Year Award at the Herts Sports Partnership Service to Sports Awards 2017. A great year for the club and the community!

“We are delighted that the work we have been doing in the community has been recognised at these awards events. Community is at the heart of everything we do and our coaches, staff and volunteers help to make our club a fun and safe environment for everyone to enjoy. Our football, educational and social awareness programmes that we run mean that we are reaching out to more and more people within our community and we are fulfilling our moto – One Community. One Club.” Dean Williamson – Chair
