Craig Edwards made two changes to the side that drew 1-1 at Kingstonian. Darion Furlong came straight in for his debut after signing earlier in the day and Jamie Reynolds came back in from the start after serving a three match suspension.

The first bit of action came just a minute in as Darion Furlong’s long throw into the box reached Alfie Pendlebury in the box. The number nine’s header was deflected over the bar. He had another attempt minutes later, but his long-distance strike was saved comfortably by Mason Terry in the Concord Rangers goal.

A long ball over the top caused confusion at the back, the ball almost fell to Pendlebury. However, the ref felt he had fouled the keeper and blew his whistle. A huge let off for the hosts.

Another long-throw in from Furlong caused problems as Nnamdi Nwachuku managed to get his head onto it first. However, it was saved comfortably again. Taylor Miles had the best chance of the game after fifteen minutes, another delivery from Furlong caused panic in the Concord defence. The ball fell out to Miles who hit a sweet volley just over the crossbar.

Cheshunt went close again as a cross in from Miles from a corner on the left found the head of Nnamdi Nwachuku at the near post. He tried to guide his header towards the far post, but it went just across the face of goal. Moments later a couple more half chances fell to the forward in the penalty area, but he was unable to find space in a crowded box.

The game was played in the Concord half for the opening half hour, as the Ambers pushed to find the opener. Sam Granville found himself in space inside the area after some great teamwork down the left. He kept his strike low and on target, but it was saved again by keeper Terry. The Ambers looked very threatening from corners, this time Miles’ dangerous ball to the back post was deflected into the path of Sam Kuffour. His left footed volley looked set to hit the target, but it was blocked magnificently by the last defender.

Despite all the pressure, the Ambers were unable to break the deadlock and the sides went into the break goalless.

HT: 0-0

It didn’t take long for the Ambers to break the deadlock as Finlay Titchmarsh somehow put the Ambers 1-0 up from a ridiculously tight angle. He drove into the  right hand side of the box and was pushed wide to the by-line in when he pulled the trigger on a venomous shot at goal, the  strike hit the bottom of the crossbar and went into the back of the net, an outstanding finish from the right back.

Just nine minutes later, it was two. After some great team play down the left, the ball found its way to Chevron McLean. He hit an inch perfect low driven cross into Alfie Pendlebury who diverted it expertly past the keeper at his near post despite the close attention of the Concord defence.

After a few tough matches, Cheshunt were in dreamland as they made it three after 65 minutes. Vas Vasiliou picked up the ball centrally before playing it out to Nathaniel Orafu on the left who was in acres of space. He had time to pick his spot and he smashed it past Mason Terry and into the back of the net.

Mason Terry continued to make excellent saves for the hosts to keep the scoreline down . This time, Nnamdi Nwachuku fired an effort on his right foot from distance. The powerful effort was matched by the West Ham loanee who saved very well down to his left.

The Ambers continued to dominate the game with a few more small opportunities. Enock Ekongo, Vas Vasiliou and Tomas Mendes all came on in the second half to see the match home, Ekongo’s tackling tightened up the right hand side, Vasiliou’s trickery retained possession in the Concord half & Mendes proved a real handful getting up early for headers & stretching the home defence with his intelligent movement.  A great debut from Furlong, a captain’s performance from Miles, and a tireless man of the match in Sam Granville topped a long awaited team performance, and  earned the Ambers a much needed three points, and most satisfying, a clean sheet.
