Match Reaction: Hitchin Town 1 – 0 Cheshunt

21 Jan 2016

"We have to take the positives" reflects Ambers boss Paul Wickenden.

A solitary goal by Lucas Kirkpatrick edged Hitchin Town into the semi-final of the Herts Senior Cup. Stuart Zanone could have given the visitors the lead four minutes into the second half, but the in form striker failed to keep the ball under control when through on goal. Instead Kirpatrick gave Hitchin the win with a delicate chip in the 56th minute.

Manager Paul Wickenden said “Although the result was disappointing I was pleased with our work ethic and willingness to get back into the game. Hitchin play in a higher division and are a top side; we have to take the positives.”

Hitchin face St Albans in the next round, while Cheshunt return to league action away to fellow play-off hopefuls Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday.

HITCHIN TOWN: Johnson, Smith, Walster, Wright, Webb, Rolfe, McNamara (Payne 77), C Donnelly, B Donnelly, Brooks, Kirkpatrick. Subs not used: Pearson, Palmeiro, Barnes, Riley.

CHESHUNT: May, Purcell, Bristow, Kizzi, Kendall, Illsley, Cooper, Hackney (Bolle 60), Coley (Asante 60), Zanone, Milner (Hallett 83).
