After contrasting scores on the opening day’s fixtures, Lewes losing away to Cray Wanderers 3-1 and The Ambers winning 3-0 at home to East Thurrock United, Craig’s team new that Lewes were going to give them a hard match as they tried to kick start their season.
In front of a large crowd of 723, Cheshunt started well with both Joe Re and Taylor McKenzie going close. Razzaq Coleman De-Graft did score for Lewes but his effort was ruled offside.
Both keepers had plenty of work to do during the first half, as Cheshunt’s Ken Charles was a constant threat for the Ambers as was Razzaq Coleman De-Graft for Lewes.
The second half started with both sides looking to break the deadlock, and it was the Lewes dangerman Razzaq Coleman De-Graft who scored in the 52nd minute.
With plenty of chances for both teams to add to the scoring, it was Ken Charles, who got the equalizer on 77 minutes for Cheshunt and sent the travelling away support into a singing frenzy.
Joe Taylor then put Lewes back in front on 83 minutes, only for Reece Beckles-Richards to get the second Cheshunt equalizer on 88 minutes.
The hosts finished with 10 men after Tom Carlse got a second yellow card in the last minute.
An excellent match finishing all square and Margate awaits The Ambers at The Stadium on Saturday.
