A combination of curtailed seasons and Cheshunt’s move to the Isthmian South Central league means we go back to October 2018 for the last competitive match between Cheshunt & Brentwood Town. The Ambers won that Velocity Trophy cup tie 2-1 with a brace from Frenchman Yvan Jourdan. Only Joe Re & Taylor McKenzie are still with the Ambers since that match.
The League matches the previous season saw a 1-1 draw at Brentwood and a brace from Jason Hallett secure a 2-0 win at Theobalds Lane. There has been a friendly match since, held earlier this season, a 2-1 for Cheshunt but not considered a reliable indicator of form as many of the players for both sides were trialling at the time.
Brentwood Town have started the season well, a 1-0 win in the FA Cup Preliminary Round v Bedfordshire side Leighton Town FC got them here, and in the League a 1-0 win away at much fancied Tilbury was followed by a reverse 0-1 at home to AFC Sudbury, and a good second half comeback saw them beat Isthmian new boys Hashtag United 3-1.
Whilst clubs like to consider their position in the league at the end of the season a gauge of their success, the FA Cup early rounds are taken very seriously and certainly not the distraction some of the Premier League clubs appear to consider. Today’s match is worth £2,250 to the winner & that can go a long way to covering some of the expenses the season brings. The full 21/22 FA Cup prize fund is available here , but let’s take one round at a time for the moment
The match is being played at The Arena, Doddinghurst Road Brentwood CM15 9NN. 15:00 kick off.
