A bumper crowd of  685 created a great atmosphere for the A10 Classico, a credit to both sets of fans for a fixture certainly missed last season.  Manager Craig Edwards made three changes from Saturday’s draw with Margate.  Zubayr Bodie came in for Taylor Miles, Theo Osinfolarin & Zack Newton exchanged places & Adam Crowther stepped back into the centre of the defence to replace the injured former Townie Taylor Mckenzie.

The opening exchanges saw Joe Re go close for Cheshunt & Mo Faal, returning to Enfield for a second spell kept the Ambers defence on their toes. The pattern of the match became clear, with Enfield looking to make best use of their size & height, and Cheshunt aware they wouldn’t win the aerial battles getting their slick passing game going, playing through the press and attacking the heart of the Enfield defence on the deck.  Current goal a game attacker Reece Beckles Richards lit the game up with a trademark curling shot from distance that left Enfield Town keeper rooted to the spot helpless as the ball flashed past his left shoulder, alas for the Ambers the shot hit the inside of the post, rebounding behind the keeper across the goalmouth and was scrambled clear.

Cheshunt had a couple of decent first half penalty claims waved away, one in particular for hand ball was claimed all around the ground, but the referee was well placed & played on. Charlie Taylor in the Cheshunt goal was alert to balls played through or over the top & was out quickly to thwart Faal on two occasions, but could do nothing about a Faal shot taken first time to give the home side the lead possibly against the run of play.  The end of the first half saw Enfield fullback Josh Urquhart stretchered off with a knee injury, having already received treatment for an ankle. We wish him well & a speedy recovery.

The second half saw Cheshunt continue to press with patient build up play and some success taking on the fullbacks, but centre halves Bray & Gyebi stood firm, when  Ken Charles did get free McDonald in goal made a good diving save to push the shot wide via the post. Zubayr Bodie & Joe Re were constantly on the ball in the middle, Beckles Richards a continuous threat, and fullbacks Williams & McLean linked well on the flanks, while inside them the pairing of Crowther & Gardiner marshalled Faal & former six game Amber Adam Cunnington well. Changes from both sides replaced tired legs as the second game in three days started to tell.  Ashley Nzala & Zack Newton added more threat to the Cheshunt attack but ran out of time to force the equaliser. Cheshunt will have to wait until December 27th to exact revenge, a gift wrapped convincing win at home the next time the teams meet definitely on the Ambers Christmas List.
