Cheshunt fell to their third successive 2-1 defeat when a second half red card changed the dynamics of the game.
The first half saw the home team start brightly with Reece Beckles Richards early attempt smothered by City keeper Michael Johnson, and Brandon Adams turn & shot just wide. St Albans looked dangerous with Shaun Jeffers looking to play off the centre halves & Callum Adebiyi having a fine header tipped over the bar by Preston Edwards.
A pass through the heart of the Cheshunt defence saw Joe Neal running onto the ball at the same instant as Cheshunt keeper Preston Edwards arrived to clear, just outside his area, Neal came of worse in the collision & referee Elson deemed Edwards challenge worthy of dismissal.
Shaun Jeffers despatched the free kick past substitute keeper George Marsh low to the left. The dismissal gave Tafari Moore room to advance on the left and his cross found Jeffers turning & shooting from close range for 2-0.
Ten man Ambers continued to battle, Jamie Reynolds hit the bar with a dipping shot from distance the keeper could only watch. Ben Frempah stole in at the back post when St Albans allowed a ball to bounce in the box , to head home, and Raul Da Silva nearly repeated the move a minute later, this time keeper Johnson saved.
