Cheshunt FC 3-2 Chippenham Town

The Ambers came from behind to secure a vital three points, courtesy of a Ken Charles second half hat-trick.

Charles’ late winner capped off a phenomenal turnaround from Craig Edwards’ men, who secured all three points, despite being in a tough position falling to a two-goal deficit early on.

The Vanarama National League South bottom of the table clash, saw twenty third place take on seventeenth. The encounter saw an early flurry of chances, with Chippenham Town’s Luke Russe firing just over the bar in the third minute.

The Bluebirds kept up this early pressure and went ahead in the tenth minute when Harry Parsons skipped past several Cheshunt FC defenders, before finishing with aplomb through a helpless Preston Edwards’ legs.

Chippenham Town stayed on top and limited The Ambers to minimal chances. Town doubled their lead shortly after the first goal, with a sumptuous strike from Alfie D’Abadia, who curled an effort in from some twenty-five yards out, giving Cheshunt Goalkeeper Edwards no chance, to the excitement of boss Gary Horgan.

Ken Charles started the second half brightly and was stretching Chippenham Town’s back line. He eventually, in the forty-ninth minute, was played through on goal by Joe Re and finished effortlessly, poking the ball in the back of the net.

Charles did not stop there, finishing emphatically after clever play from second-half substitute Manny Maja, making it two goals in two minutes for The Ambers star man.

The two sides then cancelled each other out, with last ditch defending from both sides paying dividens. However, a mix-up at the back for Chippenham Town, presented the opportunity for Ken Charles to complete the turnaround and take the match ball home.

The result lifts Cheshunt FC to twenty-second, five points from safety. Chippenham Town have slipped to twenty-first and below the dreaded dotted line into the relegation zone, just three points above The Ambers.
