Cheshunt FC would like to place on record their thanks to goalkeeper Preston Edwards for his time at Theobalds Lane. A true professional, excellent keeper & all-round genuine good guy, Preston joined on loan at the end of the 2020 season, and then signed on a permanent basis in 2022. Preston trains as he plays, with intensity & drive, and is probably one of the fittest goalkeepers in Non-League football. He completed the London Marathon this year supporting the National Autistic Society, and who was aware Preston kept fit during a suspension, by cycling from his home in Stortford to Arbour Park, Slough for the away match last season?
Preston has over four hundred Non League appearances to his career, after starting as a professional at Millwall, and has represented England at Youth & England C level. Famous for his red card after ten seconds while playing for Ebbsfleet, still considered a record for a goalkeeper, Preston is also well known in Non- League circles, this season saw ‘No Preston No Party’ at Dulwich. Preston has represented Dover, Ebbsfleet, Dulwich & Braintree before coming to Cheshunt with a record of being promoted and success, he didn’t let us down as a key player in the promotion to the Conference South.
Manager Craig Edwards is quoted ‘’Preston has been a delight to manage on and off the pitch. He is a model professional in everything he does, a fine example to all. We will miss him.’’
As Preston continues his career elsewhere & we look for a new leader of the card school. We wish Preston & his family all the very best, and look forward to seeing him visit Theobalds Lane as a welcome guest.
