It’s a big festive fixture for Cheshunt on Tuesday as Enfield Town travel up the A10 to Theobalds Lane on Boxing Day.

A fixture that usually gets plenty of attention will be even more interesting on Tuesday. Enfield Town have two former Cheshunt players in full-back Joe Payne and forward Reece Beckles-Richards, who scored 29 goals in 98 games for the club. However, the biggest story going into this fixture is that captain Taylor MacKenzie had agreed to join Enfield Town earlier in the week, which was a massive blow for Cheshunt. It remains to be seen as to whether he will be in the Match Day squad or not.

Despite this  setback, Cheshunt head into the derby in good form, other than the narrow defeat at Lewes last weekend. The Ambers started the scoring early when Antonis Vasiliou tapped home just a minute into the game. However, the lead didn’t last long and Lewes sealed the three points in the second half. Before the narrow defeat at The Dripping Pan, The Ambers were unbeaten in five including league wins against Carshalton and Kingstonian. They will be looking to regain that form in time for the derby and push out of the relegation zone ahead of a huge clash against Margate on Friday evening.

Enfield Town sit third in the league with 37 points, eight points off of Hornchurch at the top. They are currently in a run of inconsistent form with two wins, a draw and two defeats in their last five fixtures. So far this season, the Townies are averaging 2.21 goals per match, which puts them at the second highest in the league only behind leaders Hornchurch. The main reason for this is the firepower provided by the league’s top scorer Marcus Wyllie and goalscoring midfielder Sam Youngs. So far this season, they have provided 27 goals between them, with 14 and 13 respectively.

The two sides have faced each other twelve times in their recent history, Cheshunt have won four, drawn one and lost seven of the fixtures against the Townies. The most recent match between the two sides ended in a 2-1 win for the Ambers on 27th December 2021. Cheshunt got the win thanks to goals from Mo Camara and Rowan Liburd. With neither at the club anymore, Manager, Craig Edwards & the Ambers fans will be looking for some new heroes almost two years to the day since the last A10 El Classico. Sam Youngs scored for the away side in that fixture, so he is one of the players the Ambers will have to be wary of again this time around.

There is also some great news leading up to the derby, Cheshunt have welcomed back Raul Da Silva ahead of this fixture. The 27-year-old spent the 22/23 season at the Lane scoring three goals in 33 games in the National League South. On the signing, manager Craig Edwards said: “He’s a big character and he might even be a big step-up and make us stronger.” Da Silva is expected to come straight into the starting lineup for the Ambers.

This is a huge game for the club, so we hope you can all be there to cheer on the boys as we look to climb up the league table.         COYA !
