Taylor joined the Ambers from Enfield in 2018 and made almost 200 appearances for the club. He won back-to-back promotions with the Ambers, as well as lifting the Herts County Cup, in the most successful spell of his long career.

Cheshunt Chairman Dean Williamson said: “I feel for Taylor. He wanted to stay but we couldn’t match what he’d been offered.”

Taylor captained the Ambers this year, though injuries meant he hasn’t been available for every game. Manager Craig Edwards has moved swiftly to replace Taylor, bringing in the strong and quick Raul Da Silva, who played for the Ambers in the National League South. The Club has also signed promising centre back Samuel Kuffour on a long-term deal.

The timing of the move means Taylor will be available for selection when Enfield visit Theobalds Lane on Boxing Day. Williamson added: “We enjoy a healthily rivalry with Enfield being a local team to us, and we’ve enjoyed our own growth and success in recent years. I’ve always got on well with Roger Reed at Enfield, and they ground shared with us not so long ago.”

Looking ahead to the match, Williamson said: “It’s always a fixture I look forward to and one that was missed last season after our promotion. Enfield have been an established Isthmian Premier side for many years, and seemingly have the budget to get out of the league this season. They’re doing well and will be favourites for the match. ”

The match on Boxing Day kicks off at 1pm. Discounted tickets are available on the club ticket office.
