Cheshunt host local Southern Premier Central side Berkhamsted in the Quarter Final of the Herts Senior Cup on Tuesday evening.
The Hosts – Cheshunt
The Ambers come into this fixture in the middle of a very poor run of form. The team have won just one match in the last twelve fixtures in all competitions, with the only win coming at home to Whitehawk.
Craig Edwards’ side come into this game off the back of a disappointing loss against Cray Wanderers. The Ambers looked destined to keep a clean sheer but a late strike from Yahaya Bamba earned the Wands all three points at Theobalds Lane.
Cheshunt entered the Herts senior cup in the second round with a 4-1 victory over Sawbridgeworth Town in November, which earned them this fixture against Berkhamsted in the Quarter Final.
The Visitors – Berkhamsted
Berkhamsted currently sit in 21st position of the Southern League Central Premier Division with only Nuneaton Borough behind them in the table. In January, Nuneaton announced they were pulling out of the Southern League as they were on the brink of liquidation. The Boro are already relegated with zero points. Berkhamsted are a place above them with twelve points from 29 games, a huge sixteen points from safety.
Berko’s last victory outside of the Herts Senior Cup came eight games ago, which was an impressive win over Hitchin Town. Steve Heath’s side have really struggled to score goals this season, they have failed to score in 18 of their 29 league matches this season.
Berkhamsted managed to get into the Quarter Finals of the competition with a huge 5-0 victory over Kings Langley. This is by far Berko’s biggest victory of the 2023/24 season.
Head-to-Head – Cheshunt vs Berkhamsted
The two sides have faced each other a number of times in Herts FA competitions. The most recent in August last year in the Quarter Final of the Herts Charity Cup, Goals were bountiful that day, with The Ambers running out 7-2 winners. Both teams will have made plenty of changes between then & now, so we might expect a different match this time around. Outside of the Herts FA , the last meeting was an FA trophy first round match in November 2021. Cheshunt came out 1-0 winners in the match at Theobalds Lane. A late first half strike from Mo Camara was the difference between the two sides. Camara’s goal was assisted by Enock Ekongo who is still at the club today.
This is a big match for Cheshunt who are desperate to get back to winning ways. Craig and the team can’t wait to see you on Tuesday supporting the team like you always do. COYA!
