Enfield Town FC vs Cheshunt – Match Preview

Cheshunt will travel just over two miles down the road to face Enfield Town in the A10 Classico at the Queen Elizabeth II stadium on Easter Monday. The Ambers will be looking to get back on track after a narrow defeat to Margate on Tuesday night.

The Hosts – Enfield Town

Enfield have had a very strong campaign; they currently sit in third place and are looking likely to finish in the play-off places. The Townies have been in very good form in recent weeks, they are undefeated in their previous nine fixtures, which includes five wins.

Enfield travelled  south to face Bognor Regis Town this Saturday. It was a successful trip as they took all three points from a 4-2 victory. It was an all action first half at the MKM Arena with a first half Marcus Wyllie hat-trick helping them take a 3-2 lead into the break. An early second half goal from Sam Youngs secured all three points for Gavin Macpherson’s side.

Both the goal scorers have been on fire for Enfield this season. Striker Marcus Wyllie has bagged 28 goals in 42 appearances this season, while midfielder Sam Youngs has helped himself to 24 goals in 41 matches. Former Cheshunt striker Reece Beckles-Richards has also chipped in with goals this season scoring 8 in 37 appearances.

The Visitors – Cheshunt

Craig Edwards was happy to welcome two new signings before the non-league transfer deadline on Thursday. Harry Titchmarsh joined on loan from Peterborough, the 18-year-old midfielder is keen to impress the Posh in this short-term loan deal. Ivan Atkins has also been added to the ranks.

Cheshunt’s three game win streak came to an end on Tuesday after a gutting defeat to Margate in the rain. On the performance, Craig Edwards said: “I thought we were the better team by far and it was a bad defeat for us because we were so much better. But I thought they defended very  well.” Due to the weather, the Ambers’ match against play-off contenders Horsham was called off on Saturday afternoon.

Head-to-Head – Enfield Town vs Cheshunt

The Ambers will be looking to change the fortunes around on Monday as Enfield come out on top with four wins compared to Cheshunt’s one in recent matches. The Ambers’ win against the Townies came in December 2021. An early goal from Sam Youngs was cancelled out swiftly by a Mo Camara goal. Rowan Liburd won it for the Ambers with just over fifteen minutes to go.

However, the reverse fixture this season ended in a 2-1 victory for Enfield at Theobalds Lane. Enfield took the lead through Sam Youngs again, but they made it two after an own goal from Jimmy Wallace. Nnamdi Nwachuku gave Cheshunt hope after he scored a penalty but it ended in a narrow defeat.

Ambers fans will be hoping for a repeat of the victory in December 2021 at the Queen Elizabeth II stadium, but they know it will be tough. We can’t wait to hear your support from the away section on Monday as we look to get back on track. COYA!
