Cheshunt host fellow strugglers Canvey Island at Theobalds Lane on Saturday as we look to make a bigger gap between us and 19th placed Margate. At some point prior to kick off the 10,000th supporter this season will walk through the turnstiles, there is a free Pie & Pint on offer, will it be you?
The Hosts – Cheshunt
The Ambers come into this game off the back of a disappointing defeat to an in form play off chasing Billericay Town. Craig Edwards’ side was defeated 2-1 at New Lodge after a late strike from Moses Emmanuel. Cheshunt had the better of the first half with plenty of chances, but the hosts took the lead thanks via a break away goal from Alfie Cerulli. However, the lead didn’t last long as Alfie Pendlebury continued his good form since arriving at the club, levelling it up just minutes later with a header into the far corner from a Darion Furlong throw. The Ambers were dealt a huge blow just before half-time as goalkeeper Sami Nabbad saw red just before the break after a challenge outside the area that was a foul, but with the ball almost out of play twenty yards away perhaps not a goalscoring opportunity. Despite the player disadvantage, the Ambers continued to press forward and create chances but were unable to find another goal before the hosts wore them down to find a late winner.
Cheshunt will be hoping for a similar performance to their most recent home game, where Lewes were defeated 4-0 thanks to a second half brace Nnamdi Nwachuku, and first half goals Nathaniel Orafu and Jamie Reynolds. Braintree loanee Jack Roberts has had some bright moments off the bench since joining the club last month, he will be hoping to get off the mark in an Amber shirt this weekend.
The Visitors – Canvey Island
Canvey come into this game in a very good run of form which has seen them jump from 17th to 15th in the past week with two big wins in a row. On Thursday evening, the Gulls defeated Potters Bar Town 2-1 away from home thanks to goals from Sam Higgins and a late Tobi Tinubu winner in the 96th minute. This win at the Lantern Stadium helped them leapfrog both Cray Wanderers and Folkestone Invicta. Despite this win, it was their win over title winners Hornchurch a few days earlier that really impressed their fans. Goals from Bradley Sach, Emmanuel Adebiyi, Conor Hubble, and Sam Higgins earned them all three points at The Movie Starr Stadium.
Bradley Sach has been the Gulls’ biggest threat this season. The forward joined from Bowers & Pitsea in January 2022 and has helped his side steer clear of the relegation zone with sixteen goals in 43 appearances this campaign. Midfielder Conor Hubble has also chipped in, bagging nine goals in 41 matches.
Head-to-Head – Cheshunt vs Canvey Island
The Ambers have faced the Gulls just once in recent times. This was the reverse fixture this season at The Movie Starr Stadium, where the sides drew 1-1. An early first half strike from Jesse Friend after entering the pitch just minutes prior was cancelled out by a Connor Hubble penalty.
This is another massive game; we can wait to hear you all supporting the team at the Lane on Saturday as we push for safety in the Isthmian Premier Division! Presentation evening follows the match, let’s make it a celebration Ambers.
