Manager Craig Edwards was pleased to advise former Ambers goalkeeper Preston Edwards is joining his staff for the 2024/25 season. Preston will team up with James Elliott as joint Assistant Manager, add his significant experience to coaching sessions, and provide great cover as a goalkeeper if needed.
Preston started his career with Millwall, and has played over 400 games at steps 1, 2 & 3 in the National & Isthmian Premier Leagues, his previous clubs include Dover, Grays Athletic, Ebbsfleet, Borehamwood, Dulwich Hamlet, Cheshunt, Braintree, Brentwood, & Potters Bar. It was while on Millwall’s books Preston made international appearances for England at under 17, under 18, and C level.
Preston brings a wealth of experience with him to Cheshunt and with his communication skills from a career in education as a teacher we look forward to his presence on the training pitches making a difference this season ( A Head of Year Mathematics teacher with over 400 goalkeeping appearances should know his angles, right?) Preston’s winning mentality will be a great influence returning to Cheshunt FC where he made 42 appearances, signing fully after a successful short term loan spell, Preston was a key player in the promotion winning side that saw The Ambers promoted to the National League South, and is an outgoing & positive character to have in the dressing room. As the saying coined during his time at Dulwich Hamlet goes ” No Preston, No Party” . Preston is a big supporter of the National Autistic Society and has completed the London Marathon as part of his fundraising exploits (who remembers Preston cycling from home to Slough Town for an away match as part of his training a couple of seasons back? )
……..And Yes, as far as we are aware, Preston still holds the record for fastest goalkeeper red card, his dismissal for Ebbsfleet v Farnborough after only ten seconds making him a You Tube sensation overnight as over 8 million football fans logged in to check out how.
Welcome back to Cheshunt Preston!
