Cheshunt 1 (Vas Vasiliou 11). Folkestone Invicta 0
A fairly subdued start was lit up on eleven minutes when a Lordon Akolbire cross was flicked on and Cheshunt top scorer Vas Vasiliou rifled a left foot volley into the roof of the net from wide on the edge of the area. It proved to be the only goal of the match, but it wasn’t for want of trying as both sides put good footballing moves together to fashion clear chances
The first half saw both sides give no quarter in an attempt to establish superiority, former Cheshunt hero Amadou Kassarate was at the heart of everything for Folkestone and striker Dan Smith let the home defence know they were in a match. For Cheshunt Charlie Naylor battled and Dequane Wilson Braithwaite glided across the midfield areas tackling, tidying and setting The Ambers on their way forward, even having time to let a rasping shot go, that Jonathon Henry did well to push around his post.
Cheshunt spurned three opportunities in quick succession at the start of the second half attacking the Folkestone left, Donnell Thomas, Lordon Akolbire & Sam Granville combined on the right to give the full back a torrid five minutes, they created three shots on goal and put all three over the bar to the relief of the Invicta back line & frustration of the Amber fans behind the goal. Folkestone hit back with Kassarate heading wide at the back post & Evans Kouassi having a shot saved low down, before a powerful run & header from Daniel Smith just cleared the bar .
Cheshunt then wrestled control back their calm passing and movement pegged the visitors back leaving Cheshunt looking most likely to score next, the last quarter being played mostly in Folkestone’s half, Vasiliou saw a close range attempt well saved by Henley, & Darion Furlong went close with a header from a corner.
Another clean sheet and three points secured and Cheshunt can start planning for next season.
