Ambers rue missed opportunities

20 Aug 2018

Missed chances and sloppy mistakes hand Waltham Abbey a derby win.

A typical derby start with plenty of tough tackling but no end result until a penalty to the home side taken by Winn was saved by McConnell. Alas the Ambers keeper could do nothing with the second penalty from Winn, who then  doubled his tally with a follow up rebound. In between a Stimson header from a corner saw the Abbey into the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Cheshunt came out for the second half a different team and dominated, eventually Koranteng spinning to hit a low drive into the corner. Cheshunt then missed numerous chances to level up and paid the penalty when Clarke turned his marker and curled a low shot into the corner and Kelinde took advantage of a defensive mix up to put the home side clear. Ambers striker Hallett took advantage of defenders to head home two successive right wing crosses as consolation, but Cheshunt will have to rue the missed opportunities from earlier and tighten up defensively.

Local bragging rights to the Abbey until the return.
