Brentwood 1 Cheshunt 3

28 Sep 2016

The Ambers got back to winning ways on the road again, comfortably beating Brentwood on Tuesday night.

The irrepressible Billy Jones opened the scoring early, when Kai Heather threaded an almost impossible pass through a tight defence for Jones to run on to and slide under the diving keeper into the corner. A number of corners were forced by both sides, Cheshunt looking dangerous with their aerial ability at one end , while Mike Gooch in the Cheshunt goal marshalled his defence well to repel Brentwood. 1 up at the break the Ambers reshuffled to accomodate Joe Kizzi leaving the field with a dead leg, replaced by Jamie Smyth, with Tommy Fletcher moving inside from left back. A corner to Cheshunt was hit long to the back post on the hour mark, headed back across the Brentwood box & Jason Hallett rediscovered his goal touch to slam the ball into the roof of the net. Hallett was on hand again ten minutes later when Luke Marshall turned his man on the right & sent a dangerous cross into the area, the Brentwood keeper spilled the spinning ball under pressure and predator Hallett was on hand to stab home a third.  Cheshunt were on top & a number of further chances flew across the Brentwood six yard box at regular intervals, with illy Jones & Michael Kalu constantly pressuring the home defence. That man Hallett was unlucky not to complete a hat trick with a spectacular overhead kick, on target & with keeper likely to be beaten, until the shot deflected off the face of the centre half & away to safety.  Brentwood were not without their chances & work from Shad Ngandu driving forward at every opportunity with the ball at his feet finally bought a consolation in the form of a penalty 7 minutes into stoppage time, when a tired Ambers defence just failed to connect with the ball pushed past them. Lamar Reynolds converted for a final score 1-3 in the Ambers favour.
