Hallett 64, 73

The Ambers came into this match with enforced changes to account for suspensions, but it didn’t show, as Amadou Kassarate & Tom Bruno bossed the middle and the pace of Roberts & Aiken wide kept opening up gaps for Hallett & Menga through the middle.

Defensively, very well marshalled by Harry Girling, Lampe & Sappleton were a wall centrally Brentwood failed to breach, and in the full back positions Yallop’s pace covered the right & debutant Spencer’s left foot constantly found a pass to release men forward.

The home side had the opportunity to take the lead mid way through the first half, alas marksman Hallett opted to test the ball catch netting, with a blast over the bar. It seemed he may get the chance to atone for this when he was clearly rugby tackled to the ground when clean through but not given! When he did meet a right wing cross and head in across the keeper, he was adjudged offside!

Assisted by the constant harassment Lhereux Menga served up, Hallett finally got his goals. The first a header from a Roberts cross, and the second a typical bullying of his marker to get goal side & pass home low beyond the keeper.

Brentwood had to fill the middle to cope with the Ambers, blunting any semblance of an attack they started with.

The Ambers comfortable winners, it could & should have been by more.
