While we haven't been able to enjoy training or matches at any level in recent times, there is plenty going on behind the scenes, ready for when we can.
Darren our Groundsman is still hard at work with Max, working on the pitch drainage, promoting growth in the goalmouth areas, and keeping everything on the stadium, 3G and back pitches ready for an immediate return, the pitches really do look in tip top condition. Some pictures to follow when the sun comes out.
The Youth section continue to be active with a number of teams now holding regular training sessions via video conference, and coaches setting weekly challenges.
The 1st team Physio Kim Harris has been busy, setting up the Kimology sports massage & injury clinic at the Marsh Brown Arena, Royston. Please click on the link to find out more about Kim, and the offerings at Kimology.
Off the pitch, Ria , Dean & Grant have continued to plan ahead for times when we can enjoy the Sports Bar, Club Amber & welcome fans back to matches, the bills still have to be paid, enquiries answered, & opportunities researched. Ria keeps the office ticking over, Grant is looking at how we promote the club & communicate internally and externally, and Dean is ensuring we look at every opportunity to earn an income from our assets, seek out improvement grants and ultimately work with Craig to keep the squad together while decisions are made on when we might restart football. As a member of the Isthmian League we have been invited to submit our thought on how to progress the season (when safe to do so) , there is more information from the League Chairman Nick Robinson here
As a Club with the community at its heart, this week will see us investigate how we might help battle the wretched Covid 19 virus by using our facilities to provide a Covid Testing Centre for local people to attend, similar to the operations run recently in Hoddesdon & Waltham Cross.
As with many clubs at our level during recent times, we have to be aware of the impact teams above us at steps 1 & 2 in the Non league ladder, the National Leagues under their ‘elite’ status have been allowed to continue playing albeit behind closed doors, but are receiving Government backed finance to do so, this presents a challenge to clubs at step 3 & 4, it is an attractive opportunity to be invited to train & compete for a place with a step 1 or 2 National League in a normal season, it is more attractive still currently, as they can offer a full wage, training and competitive matches at the moment. This said, Cheshunt FC have acted to try & help all our players through this period, and in return they are seeking to maintain their fitness levels working individually, ready for the call from Craig to report back for training. We look forward to the time when we can get back to competing for players on a more even playing field.
Even without regular football, there are always changes taking place within the squads and we would like to take the opportunity to wish Goalkeeping Coach Peter Russell well with his move closer to home with St Albans FC, Thank You for your work here at Cheshunt over the years Peter, it has been appreciated & evident on match days, Good Luck with your new role.
Joining Peter with a move last week was Assistant Manager Mark Hughes, joining up again with Kevin Watson at Billericay Town. Mark has been a driving force on and off the pitch during his time at Cheshunt FC, leading the team to promotion and then the architect of the training sessions taking Cheshunt FC to second in the Premier League. Thank You Mark for some amazing memories, Good Luck and Success in your new role, we will keep tabs on your progress. Manager Craig Edwards comments further in his news update, created list of potential candidates to replace Mark, and has moved quickly to bring in a popular and familiar face to the club.
