Significant funding awarded by the Premier League through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund for new stadium facilities at Theobalds Lane.

Cheshunt Football Club have been boosted by the news that they are to receive a £150,000 grant from the Premier League, through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), in order to carry to a wide range of ground improvement works at their Theobalds Lane home.

Funding from the Premier League has enabled Cheshunt FC to begin extensive improvement works on their facilities, previously in a dilapidated condition, and will ensure they meet the necessary ground requirements to continue to play at their current, and all realistic, levels above. Specifically, the funding will be used towards the installation of a new floodlight system, a 170-seater covered grandstand, pitch perimeter barrier, fencing, team dug-outs, re-surfacing of spectator areas and turnstiles.

The works at Theobalds Lane, once complete, will benefit not just players and officials, but by improving fans’ safety and comfort and enhancing the match-day experience, will also help ensure that the club can remain financially sustainable over the coming years.

Funded with £5.2m each year from the Premier League, the FSIF is the country’s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league football grounds in both the professional and amateur game. These improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.

Dean Williamson, Chairman of Cheshunt FC, said: “I’m delighted with the funding award. Sports facilities are very important to the community and it is really reassuring to know the value the Premier League, through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, places on developing new facilities. Not only will the proposals bring a visually enhanced look to the Club, but also offer the wider community access to a fantastic football facility that will be there for all to enjoy.”

Peter McCormick OBE, Chairman of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, said: “I am very pleased that we have been able to offer this sizable grant to Cheshunt FC. This project is excellent example of the investment that the Premier League continues to provide to clubs and organisations at all levels of the National League System, through the FSIF. The ground improvements will provide a massive boost to the club, allowing them to enjoy a healthy and sustainable future, and I look forward to seeing the results of the works.”

Works have commenced at the stadium and will be ready for the start of the 2015/16 season.
