Cheshunt Football Club awarded £297,716 towards 3G Pitch

23 Jul 2015

Cheshunt FC is among 149 projects to secure a share of £16.5 million of National Lottery funding from Sport England that will help improve facilities.

Cheshunt Football Club has been awarded £297,716 to fund the development of a new floodlit, full size 3G Artificial Grass Pitch. The AGP is part of the club’s wider development of a new 16-acre training complex at its home on Theobalds Lane that will bring first class football facilities to the club and the community.

Club Chairman, Dean Williamson, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment. Grass roots football is extremely important and the new AGP will be a huge asset to the club and the local area. It will upgrade the quality of our football provision to match the quality of our coaching programmes and allow participants to feel part of a club community.

The announcement comes as Sport England revealed that it has reached a major funding milestone – having invested £5 billion in grassroots sport in the last 20 years.

Since 1994, the year Tom Daley was born, Wet Wet Wet topped the charts with Love Is All Around and the Channel Tunnel opened, Sport England has made tens of thousands of investments – totalling £5 billion.

Sport England’s Property Director, Charles Johnston, said: “£5 billion is a huge sum of money, but it’s the projects and people that that money supports which are really important. We’re delighted to have invested so much into community sport, and see on a daily basis the impact that it makes for local people.

“The latest round of facility funding continues to make a noticeable difference to community sports clubs across the country. By giving people top-class, sustainable facilities in which to play sport, and by improving and protecting our playing surfaces, we’re ensuring that more people can pay sport, more often.”

Tiger Turf have won the contract to build the AGP at Theobald Lane, with work commencing at the beginning of July this year. Phase 1 of Cheshunt’s new training complex, which also includes 16 acres of high quality playing surfaces with a sustainable drainage and irrigation system, is due for completion in late September.
