One community. One club.

What our community cup day is all about

28 Jul 2017

Our community has lost a son, a brother, a friend and a part of our future has been changed for ever. Robbie’s passing has been difficult for many. Support us tomorrow at our first Community Cup to raise funds for a safety awareness campaign in memory of Robbie Lea.

Community is at the heart of Cheshunt Football Club, and we decided to start an annual pre-season tournament to raise funds for deserving local causes and individuals. This is our first tournament, and this year we are holding the event in memory of local boy Robbie Lea, who tragically drowned while out swimming with friends in a lake at the Lea Valley Park in Cheshunt. The day will promote water safety and raise funds for a safety awareness campaign.

Robbie was only 16, a student at Herts Regional College, and former pupil of the local Goffs School, he was well known to many in the community including many of us at the club.

So when Robbie’s Mum Sarah, declared so bravely, that no family should have to experience a loss of a loved one to similar circumstances, and that she wanted to campaign for water safety awareness, Cheshunt FC were very grateful to Sarah and her family for the opportunity to help such a worthy campaign.

As a community we are blessed with the nature, beauty, and recreational facility of Lee Valley Park on our doorstep. The rivers, lakes and marshes are an attraction for wildlife, the green open spaces plentiful, it is a lovely place to relax. However, with so much open water, deep water and in places fast currents, it can be a dangerous place requiring sound judgement and care.

Funds raised from our event will be used in conjunction with the LVRA to promote a Water Safety Awareness programme.

We hope you enjoy your day with us, have fun, enjoy the entertainment, hospitality and of course the football. If you do find a quiet moment at some point, please think of Robbie, raise a glass, say a prayer, or just a touch of the cap.

This year’s Community Day is dedicated to the memory of Robbie. Please give generously if you have the opportunity and join us in supporting Robbie’s Mum and the LVRA in ensuring our community has a good awareness of water safety and can enjoy our environment without having to endure any further tragedy.
