Defeat disappointing but timely

04 Aug 2018

The Amber’s good pre-season form stuttered away at Coggeshall Town.

Cheshunt were unable to capitalise on taking an early lead, with Jason Hallett scoring within seconds of kick off.

The newly promoted hosts took control of the game midway through the first half and, despite a late Cheshunt fight back, deserved their win, proving they will be a tough match in the Bostik North.

As for Cheshunt, the result is a timely one ahead of the new season. Ambers boss Craig Edwards said: “Sometimes it’s worrying when you’re having a good pre-season. You lose the first league game and wonder ‘where did that performance come from?”

He added: “The players are hurting today and I’m expecting a different performance from them next week.”

The day was further soured for Cheshunt when Kyle Roberts limped off at half time with an inflamed knee.

The Ambers kick off the new season at home on Saturday against favourites Hayes and Yeading United.
