MATCH PREVIEW: BERKHAMSTED FC

25 Feb 2020

THE AMBERS WELCOME THE COMRADES TO THE LANE

Cheshunt face the first of three semi-finals this season as Berkhamsted visit Theobalds Lane on Tuesday evening in the Hertfordshire Charity Cup.

The Ambers will be looking to return to winning ways on Tuesday after a run of three consecutive wins came to an end on Saturday after they were defeated by promotion hopefuls Horsham 2-0.

Last weekend saw a real tightening at the bottom of the Isthmian Premier Division, as Cheshunt remain 18th, but there are now four teams on 24 points above bottom side Corinthian-Casuals who are on 22.

Despite the league struggles, Craig Edwards’ side have enjoyed great success in the cups, and reached the semi-final of this competition with a 4-0 victory over Potters Bar Town.

On the injury front Jamie Reynolds, Tommie Hession-Harris and Ibrahima Diallo are all out, whilst Joe Re is suspended and Taylor Miles is cup tied.

Cheshunt boss Craig Edwards is looking forward to Tuesday’s semi-final, as he commented: “We know it’ll be a tough game, they’re the division below but near the top, I think they’ve won their last god knows how many games, they score a mountain of goals so it’s going to be tough.

“Obviously we’ve got Joe (Re) suspended and Taylor (Miles) is cup tied, so it will leave us a little bit light in midfield, but we’ve got players to come in and it’ll be interesting to see how it goes, it should be a good game.

“So it’d be nice to reach a final, I think the cups have been a welcome distraction for us from the battles of the league.”

Southern Central Division side Berkhamsted sit second in their division, two points behind league leaders Halesowen Town, albeit having played two games more.

The Comrades are unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions, and had won seven straight matches before drawing 2-2 with Bedworth United on Saturday.

‘Berko’ have already knocked out higher-ranked opposition in the Charity Cup, having defeated Southern League Premier Division Central side Hitchin Town 4-0.

They have no apparent injury concerns.

Tuesday’s game takes place at the Stadium, Theobalds Lane, postcode EN8 8RU. Kick-off is 7.45pm, and admission prices are just £10 adults, £5 concessions and £1 U16s. COYAMBERS.
