THIRD TIME LUCKY????????????
Attention turns to the Velocity trophy this week as Cheshunt visit East Thurrock United.
The Ambers and East Thurrock have met twice so far this season, with the Rocks running out 4-1 winners in the league, and 2-1 winners in the FA Trophy.
Saturday’s narrow 3-2 defeat to local rivals Enfield Town saw Craig Edwards’ side suffer a first defeat of 2020, bringing an end to a run of three consecutive victories over Kingstonian (3-1), Barking (2-1) and Wingate & Finchley (2-1).
That victory over Barking saw Cheshunt progress to the current stage of the competition, after joining the Velocity Trophy in the second round.
On the injury front, Amadou Kassarate remains sidelined through injury, whilst long-term absentees Ashley Nzala and Fabion Simms returned to training last week, although are a number of weeks away from returning to match action.
Ahead of the game, Cheshunt Manager Craig Edwards said: “It’s a chance for a few of the lads to get minutes, but we’ll go over there and hopefully put on a good show again.
“The good thing is from my point of view, we’re away at East Thurrock who you say have beaten us twice already, go to Worthing who have beaten us here, and they’re top of the league, five points clear, but I will honestly go into both of those games confident of winning.”
East Thurrock United are yet to lose a game since the turn of the year and have gone four games without defeat, with victories over Bowers & Pitsea (2-1) and Margate (1-0), and draws with Worthing (0-0) and Kingstonian (3-3).
The Rocks were actually defeated 4-3 by Bishop’s Stortford in the previous round of the Velocity Trophy, however were re-instated into the competition due to their opponents fielding an ineligible player.
East Thurrock have no apparent injury concerns.
Tuesday’s game takes place at Rookery Hill, postcode SS17 9LB. kick-off is 7.45pm, and admission prices are £6 adults, £3 concessions and £1 U16s. Come on you Ambers.
