MATCH PREVIEW: FOLKESTONE INVICTA FC

28 Feb 2020

BACK TO THE LEAGUE THIS SATURDAY AT THE LANE.

Folkestone Invicta visit Theobalds Lane this weekend for a game with huge ramifications at both ends of the table.

The first meeting of the season between the two clubs came in mid-October, and it was the title-challenging Folkestone who emerged victorious as Cheshunt were defeated 4-2.

Last weekend saw the bottom of the Isthmian Premier Division tighten up as the 18th-place Ambers are now level on points with the three teams below them, and just two points ahead of bottom side Corininthian-Casuals.

After a run of three-straight wins, Cheshunt have now lost their last two games, and have won just one of their last seven league encounters, so will be eager to pull off the upset against Folkestone.

Jamie Reynolds, Ibrahima Diallo, Taylor McKenzie, Taylor Miles and Joe Re should all return to the squad after missing Tuesday’s defeat to Berkhamsted, however Tommie Hession-Harris remains sidelined through injury.

Ahead of the visit of Folkestone, Cheshunt Manager Craig Edwards is fully aware of the task facing his side as he said: “It was a fantastic result for Wingate (against Folkestone), so I’m sure Folkestone will be champing at the bit, but with all due respect to Wingate if they can beat them, there’s no reason why we can’t.

“What we showed tonight (against Berkhamsted) is we can create a hell of a lot of opportunities, and to be fair, it’s ifs and buts and maybes, but if you start with Mossy (Ryan Moss), Reece (Beckles-Richards) and Zack we might have scored a few more goals.”

Folkestone are currently enjoying an excellent season and remain firmly in the title race, sitting just six points behind league leaders Worthing with a game in hand.

That said, Invicta have lost their last two games, losing 1-0 to Wingate & Finchley last weekend, before on Tuesday they were defeated 4-0 by Dartford in the Kent Senior Cup.

Only Ronnie Dolan is an injury doubt for Neil Cugley’s side this weekend, with the Folkestone boss expected to have the rest of his squad to call on.

Saturday’s game takes place at the Stadium, Theobalds Lane, postcode EN8 8RU. Kick-off is 3pm, and admission prices are just £10 adults, £5 concessions and £1 U16s. COYAMBERS.
