WE ARE GOING UP, WE ARE GOING UP.
Bracknell Town v Cheshunt – Bostik South Central Playoff Final Match Report
This was it, the 40th and final game of a long and arduous season for The Robbins and The Ambers. 837 fans packed into Larges Lane for this showpiece encounter. It was a fruitful day for the Ambers as a Shane Cojocarel double and a strike from Brian Moses secured Cheshunt only their 2nd ever promotion to Step 3 of Non League Football.
Craig Edwards named an unchanged side from their playoff semi final victory over Marlow on Tuesday, with former Amber, Joe Gater taking his place on the Bracknell Town bench.
The hosts got us underway at a packed Larges Lane and both sides were up for it from the off. The first main chance fell to Mark Hughes, his shot from the edge of the box was clawed away by Mark Scott in the Bracknell goal. Adam Cornell and Liam Ferdinand were causing the Ambers backline huge problems, with the latter forcing his way through on goal, but his first touch let him down and Harry Girling came out to collect. The wing backs for Bracknell were getting a lot of joy out on their respective wings, with Right Back, Joel Jacobs delivering a delicious ball into the box but Cornell’s diving header went over the bar. The visitors weren’t without chances however, a Taylor Miles corner was met by captain Mark Hughes who’s header smashed back off the base of the post and was eventually scrambled to safety. The remainder of the first half was a cagey and nervy affair and it looked like it would be 0-0 heading into the break, however, a defensive mix up from the hosts allowed the Ambers through, and it was a superb ball from Joe Re to set Shane Cojocarel in, who killed the ball superbly with his first touch and then clip it delightfully over the onrushing Scott to send the Ambers fans into raptures behind the goal and give them a 1-0 lead right on half time.
HT – Bracknell Town 0-1 Cheshunt
The second half got underway and I don’t think anyone could’ve expected the blistering start to it we saw. Bracknell came out fired up and were pressing Cheshunt hard, but the Ambers executed a counter attack to perfection, Connor Peters surged forward with the bill on the left and hung up a superb back post cross to Brian Moses who’s header was blocked, and while the ball was popping round, Cojocarel reacted quickest to poke the ball home to give the Ambers a two goal cushion. (0-2 48 Mins) Things then got even better for the visitors 5 minutes later, another counter attack but this time Jason Hallett found himself free in the right channel, who squared the ball for Brian Moses who had all the time in the world to pick his spot and make it 3-0 to the Ambers! Bracknell tried to claw themselves back into the game and Joe Grant worked himself into a yard of space before pinging a low effort towards the bottom left corner, but Girling sprang into action to claw the effort away. The game was already over for the hosts, and had been since the 53rd minute, with the referees whistle causing pandemonium among the away supporters who had been magnificent all afternoon
The perfect end to a brilliant season. THE AMBERS ARE PROMOTED, BOSTIK PREMIER HERE WE COME
