MATCH REPORT: CHESHUNT FC 1-0 STOWMARKET TOWN FC

24 Aug 2019

THE AMBERS JOURNEY TO WEMBLEY CONTINUES.

A tight first half saw Cheshunt ease into the game and have the upper hand, forcing corners and half chances, and squeezing Stowmarket out of the midfield with diligent work from Mo Camara & Fabion Simm, except for one passage of play that saw Dominic Doherty slalom through two lines of defence to hit a low cross shot that Harry Girling got down to push past the post.

The second half saw Cheshunt continue to apply pressure, and were duly rewarded when a Joe Re shot from the edge of the area was handled as defenders threw themselves in front of the drive. No dispute from the away side and Tom Hitchcock calmly despatched the penalty with a rasping shot well clear of the diving James Bradbrook. Ten minutes and a few substitutions later Olusanya Olutosi causing a lot of problems with his turns and change of pace broke free, and shot low, only to see a despairing dive by the Stow centre half hand ball off the line, with the referee unsighted.
Stowmarket stepped up the pressure and forced further saves from Girling, without really testing him.
a fine cup tie contested by two good sides in a competitive match well supported.
