Robins swoop in for late equalizer.
Bedfont Sports fought back from 2-0 down with two goals in the final five minutes to snatch a 2-2 draw against Cheshunt FC.
An Olu Akinsanya brace gave Cheshunt the advantage, before Scott Harris and Perry Luckins struck late on for the visitors.
A disappointed Craig Edwards commented, “When you’re 2-0 up with four minutes to go you expect to win. I didn’t think they (Bedfont Sports) offered anything going forward, and didn’t threaten us at all. Their only opportunities were given to them by the referee.
“It’s never a free-kick at the end, but we should deal with it and unfortunately that’s football, sometimes you don’t get what you deserve. But there were a lot of positives to take from today.”
After a quiet opening Cheshunt took the lead, George Casey delivering a terrific cross for Olu Akinsanya to tap home at the back post.
Just three minutes later Bedfont Sports were awarded a controversial penalty as Taylor McKenzie was adjudged to have bundled over Perry Luckins in the box. However, Bobby Mason superbly saved Scott Harris’ spot-kick down to his left.
Olu Akinsanya then had an excellent chance to double Cheshunt’s advantage, as he headed Mark Hughes’ flick on over from close range.
10 minutes after the break Casey and Akinsanya combined once more for Cheshunt to double their lead, the latter’s cross-shot flying over Matte Pierson and into the goal.
Bobby Mason was then forced into action as he produced an excellent save to keep Cheshunt two goals ahead, preventing Jack Mills from heading home.
The visitors were given hope with four minutes remaining as Abdeen Abdul found Harris in the box who blasted home.
Matte Pierson then had to react to keep Sports in it, pushing substitute Christian Owusu’s dinked effort over the crossbar.
Bedfont were awarded a free-kick two minutes into added time, and the comeback was complete as Perry Luckins got on the end of Timothy Pitt’s delivery to bundle home.
