MATCH REPORT: EGHAM TOWN FC 2-1 CHESHUNT FC

24 Nov 2018

WOES ON THE ROAD FOR THE AMBERS.

Cheshunt slipped to a disappointing defeat as they were beaten by the lowly Egham Town 2-1.

Goals from Curtis Ujah and Ryan Hill were enough to earn the hosts their first league win since August, despite a debut goal from Cheshunt’s Yannick Kamanan.

An irate Craig Edwards stated: “It was an absolutely dreadful performance, we should be light years in front of them (Egham). We’ve probably had 80% possession and didn’t open them up nearly enough. For the life of me I don’t know how they’ve scored two goals, giving their centre-half a free header is unforgivable.”

It was the 19th placed side who started the game on top, and they were rewarded when Curtis Ujah found space in the box and headed home Ryan Hill’s corner.

Cheshunt started to grow into the game and Ali Cheranti almost created the equaliser, sending a terrific ball across the box that Pat Adamson couldn’t turn home.

The visitors continued to dominate possession without carving out many opportunities, however Mark Hughes had an excellent chance after being found by Olu Akinsanya, but he turned the ball wide.

10 minutes into the second-half Cheshunt drew level, Akinsanya being fouled on the edge of the box before substitute Yannick Kamanan curled home a terrific free-kick into the top corner on debut.

Cheshunt shot-stopper Bobby Mason was then forced into action to keep the scores level, recovering well to prevent Darren Abbey’s deflected strike from trickling over the line.

Just four minutes after coming on Al-Hafeez Sanusi almost gave the Ambers the advantage, latching onto Nicky Symons’ ball and cutting in only for his strike to be deflected just over the crossbar.

Egham continued to push for the three points themselves, as Rhys Rabess cut into the box and forced Mason into making the stop at his near post.

Cheshunt had a pair of chances to win the game in injury time, Kamanan shooting straight at Matthew Nolan, before just a minute later Mark Hughes turned on the edge of the box and fired wide.

In the sixth minute of added time Egham were unable to deal with a Cheshunt free-kick, before launching a counterattack through Brandon McCarthy who found Ryan Hill to smash home and seal a stunning three points for Egham.
