THE AMBERS THROUGH TO THEIR THIRD SEMI-FINAL OF THE SEASON
Cheshunt progressed to their third semi-final of the current campaign after grinding out a 2-0 win against a dogged London Colney side.
The poor weather over the weekend and throughout the game created a heavy pitch, which made it incredibly difficult for either side to play their football, but a Reece Beckles-Richards double proved to be enough to send the Ambers through.
The unpleasant conditions seemed to suit the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division side in the opening stages and they created a couple of half chances inside the first 10 minutes.
However, it was Cheshunt who fashioned the first clear-cut opportunity as Reece Beckles-Richards showed great strength to hold off a challenge, before cutting in and producing a fine stop from Colney goalkeeper Eddie Gordon-Allen.
The best chance to open the scoring came midway through the first-half after excellent work by Zack Newton down the left set up Jamie Reynolds in the box, but he shot straight at Allen.
After another couple of openings for the hosts, including a chance for Laurance Vaughan who dragged just wide, it was Cheshunt who took the lead just before the break.
The hosts cleared the ball straight to Jamie Reynolds who slipped in Reece Beckles-Richards, with the on-loan forward keeping his cool and curling home into the top corner.
And before the hour mark Beckles-Richards made it 2-0 with his fifth goal in three games, following in Zack Newton’s deflected effort and heading home in front of the onrushing Allen.
The hosts had a big chance to set up a grandstand finish with 10 minutes remaining as the ball came to an unmarked Marco Faria at the back post. But with the goal at his mercy, Faria somehow fired over with his first-time effort from inside the six-yard box.
Cheshunt shot-stopper Harry Girling had to make one superb save late on as his side were able to see out the closing moments, to set-up a semi-final with Hemel Hempstead Town at Theobalds Lane.
