THE AMBERS PROGRESS TO THE SEMI FINALS.
Cheshunt progressed to the semi-finals of the Hertfordshire FA Charity Cup after a dominant second-half performance saw the Ambers defeat Potters Bar Town 4-0.
The first-half was largely a scrappy affair, however after the interval Ibrahim Diallo, Sammy Collins, and Bobby Mills, who hit a brace, helped Cheshunt end a run of six consecutive defeats.
The first clear-cut chance of the game fell to Potters Bar after 30 minutes, as Joakim Ehui whipped in a cross for Brad Sach who fired against the crossbar from 10-yards out, before Chris Doyle’s follow-up effort was superbly saved by Harry Girling.
The Ambers started to dictate the tempo of the game in the early stages after the interval, and almost opened the scoring after Ibrahim Diallo won the ball high up the pitch and crossed for Ethan Nelson-Roberts, who saw his strike pushed away to safety by R’avan Constable.
Cheshunt had another couple of half-chances before the pressure eventually told as Ibrahim Diallo gave his side the lead on his return from injury. The right-back collected the ball on the edge of the box and his effort took a wicked deflection that defeated Constable and flew into the goal.
After a brief pause as fireworks from an adjacent field landed on the pitch, the Ambers doubled their lead as Sammy Collins’ corner from the left flew directly into the goal.
Just after the hour mark the Scholars came close to pulling a goal back as Thomas Gogo got in behind the Cheshunt defence down the left, before his strike across goal flashed wide.
With 25 minutes remaining the win was all but secured courtesy of Bobby Mills’ first goal for the club, the on-loan forward bringing down Amadou Kassarate’s ball over the top before delightfully chipping Constable in the Potters Bar goal.
Harry Girling then had to be at his best to maintain his clean sheet inside the last 15 minutes, superbly tipping Brad Sach’s fierce strike over the crossbar.
Cheshunt’s progression to the semi-finals was wrapped up in style when Bobby Mills struck a stunning second, as he spotted Constable off his line and lobbed the Scholars’ shot-stopper from 40-yards out with an exquisite effort.
