An exceptional opportunity for talented
16-19-year-olds to gain BTEC Extended
Diploma in Sport – education alongside
enhanced football training.
Stevenage FC and Cheshunt FC have joined forces to create the Elite College Programme (ECP), which offers young footballers a unique opportunity to get a first-class education while gaining invaluable football training and match experience in a professional football club environment.
The Cheshunt FC Elite College Programme with Stevenage FC is a two-year scholarship for boys aged 16-19 years old, during which they study for BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport, the equivalent to 3 A Levels.
Studying at Cheshunt FC, participants will get a first-class education which allows them to get to university as well as gaining qualifications which will enable them to work in the sports industry, including FA coaching badges.
They will also train for up to eight hours a week with UEFA ‘B’ qualified Stevenage FC Academy coaches and represent the club in the British Colleges League. Being part of the Cheshunt ECP allows students direct access to the same elite coaches that work with Stevenage’s under-18 team, with opportunities available to train with and be selected for the club’s elite under-18 team.
Many graduates of Stevenage’s college schemes over the years have gone on to enjoy successful careers both on and off the field. Professional footballers including Burnley star George Boyd, Leyton Orient winger Shaun Batt and experienced defender Sam Hatton have come through the club’s ranks as part of the previous EFCO scheme, with many others currently enjoying careers within football and other sports, in roles ranging from coaching to sports science and analysis.
The Elite College Programme is an excellent way for young, willing talent to build a platform for their future playing and non-playing careers.
