The league’s top scorers met the leagues tightest defence and an entertaining match was served up. Home team Worthing started with intent, and opened the scoring early when a long ball from a free kick found Reece Miles Meekums twisting in the box to find a pass to Ollie Pearce who slid the ball into the corner for the opener. However Cheshunt manager Craig Edwards had done his homework and an early press pinned the home side in their own half with only a well marshalled Jasper Pattenden as an out ball. The press paid dividends in midfield and well practised interplay put debutant Rowan Liburd one on one with keeper and he made no mistake striking a firm shot for the equaliser. The press paid dividends ten minutes later when Joe are dispossessed Aaron Racine and Zack Newton put Rowan Liburd through again, a sharp turn on the penalty spot and a shot despatched for his second.
The second half saw Cheshunt open as they had closed the first, chasing down Worthing in their own half, and going close with low crosses from the left turning Worthing around. Eventually the home team started to get control and started a relentless assault on the Cheshunt goal, numerous corners were won and headers wide or high, when they weren’t George Marsh in the Ambers goal collected.
A tense last few minutes saw Dayshonne Golding hit the bar for Worthing and Harrison Male in the Worthing goal turn a Rowan Liburd shot onto the bar.
